horsetrailHorse Riding

A favourite summer activity includes horse riding on the Riverside Horse Trails, a relaxing and ideal method of getting away from it all. There are a few outfitters in the area who would be pleased to take you on a customized horseback tour, and offer a wonderful opportunity for the photographer or video enthusiast, who might want to take in some of the beautiful scenery in Brazeau Country. The Riverside Trails, operated by the Drayton Valley Horse Club, are groomed riding trails that meander along the banks of the Pembina River and through meadows of wildflowers. A staging area and campsite are also available. The annual Trail Ride for Cancer is held on the first Sunday in May, and on the third Sunday of June, the Drayton Valley Horse Club hosts the annual Horse Show.

Archery Ranges

If you like a challenge, come practice your shooting prowess at the Brazeau Bowbenders Archery Club and the Evergreen Shooting Club Range.

The Brazeau Bowbenders Archery Club is located north of Hwy 22 on Rg. Rd 71. Annual events include a 3-D shoot held early in July, and a Spring 3-D shoot held in mid-March. Guests are always welcome.

The Evergreen Shooting Club's shooting range is located near the North Saskatchewan River about 8 km southeast of Drayton Valley. The club features two covered lines; one over the 100 yd handgun/smallbore range, the other over the 200 yd bigbore range. Annual events include the Shooting Sports Challenge in May, and the Rifle Rodeo. The Evergreen Shooting Club also hosts a Gun and Sports Show each spring. Everyone welcome!

A visit to the Coyote Lake Conservation Area is in order for those who enjoy wildlife and a walk in the woods. Large tracts of virgin forests, wetland and a 135 acre (54 hectares) shallow lake host over 266 species of vascular plants including five types of orchids and six other rarities; 108 bird species plus 46 waterfowl, of which nine are at risk; and over 20 species of mammals ranging from the black bear to the flying squirrel. A dramatic increase in bird population has made this area of great interest to novice and serious bird watchers. Guided walks can be arranged. Coyote Lake Nature Sanctuary is within fifteen minutes of Breton.

The Town of Drayton Valley features more than five kilometers of pathways in their new walkway system. Winding paths and beautiful ponds encourage neighbourly chit-chats.
